Empower Thyself - Path of Initiation

We may have heard of the power of initiation. Perhaps talks about empowerment, personal growth, entering into a lineage, gaining knowledge; and increased understanding sound familiar. What does this mean to you? Have you been initiated? How do you know? The truth is we all have been initiated in some way.
Tribal cultures of indigenous people around the world have tradition and ceremony to mark rights of passage. In today’s world we have combined our cultures and traditions to create community, but at a sacrifice of losing important steps along the way of our personal evolution. We still have celebrations and ceremonies; but unless you are embracing a specific cultural or religious tradition, you may be missing a few stepping stones to fully embrace your pivotal points on your life’s journey to mark your commitment to the next phase of your life. Perhaps you can map your own journey as I share my story.
As a young child I remember being one with the earth. For hours I connected with my own physicality. I built cities in my sandbox. I remembered wisdoms of middle earth while watching countless blades of grass swaying in sunlight. I felt free with breezes of wind caressing my face as a maple tree which held ropes of my home-made wooden swing shaped like a horse kept me safe. Flowers were my friends, trees were my guardians and animals were my teachers for learning more. These memories of childhood mark my commitment to being a human in community with the elements of earth. I understood my individuated self in a world of wonder and exploration. My freedom was expressed in the choice that I agreed to be born human.
Through years of time in classrooms under influence of teachers and others, I began to separate from this beauty of childhood knowing. As my formal schooling was coming to an end, I chose to be exclusive with certain friends, styles and patterns. I made a commitment to embracing my young adulthood through rebellion and refusing to conform. This signified my transition from childhood into adulthood. These patterns continued for many years taking me in a direction far from the understanding that I had sought comfort in as a child. Societal conditioning trained me to not accept my truths and turn away from my inner knowing. By judging my creativity with grades and making me wrong for not completing assignments, I forgot who I wanted to be in exchange for trying to be accepted. This led me to a place of deep sorrow and disconnection. I felt alone in a place of darkness. This dark and empty shell grew into a new starting place for adulthood and I stayed here for many years.
In the most dramatic moment of my separation from everything I once understood, I refused to accept the absence of truth. I stood against darkness refusing to let it swallow me whole. I looked longingly for a pinprick of light amidst absolute nothing. This moment of discovery in complete despair is a milestone in the larger picture. I had nothing. I felt I had no one. There was nothing that I could think of to bring me out of this place of illusion. I didn’t think I wanted to live anymore. I decided to accept that living was my only choice out of this feeling of emptiness. In choosing light over darkness, I stepped on a path of rediscovery. In this process, I reincarnated my self-initiation.
Several years following my rediscovery of self-initiation I found the road to be rough, filled with detours and dead ends. Though I was on a mission to seek a better life, my progress often felt stuck in the pattern of two steps forward, one step back, one step forward…five steps back. My lack of faith began to guide me to a place of apathy and despair. I was frustrated and doubtful. A trusted friend appeared to lead me towards a place of better understanding. He helped me with introducing me to a Life Activation which immediately reduced my feelings of fear and anxiety. As this gentle healing assisted me in clarity and a more positive attitude, I felt ready for more knowledge. My friend then introduced me to my Guide and kindly encouraged my decisions to receive my “first” initiation as an Adept through the Empower Thyself weekend program.
The difference between my prior experiences with my natural rites of passage and this formal initiation was the immediate understanding of myself and my will to do good. As the ceremony began and I looked into the eyes of my Guide, I remembered clearly that this moment would be the absolute most important choice in my entire life. I saw her eyes and remembered how everything in my journey before this moment and after it would hinge on this moment of self recognition. In stepping forward with this process of formal initiation, I would promise myself to progress each day. By utilizing a platform of self knowledge, I would begin to work with the keys to seeking higher knowledge. Today this choice to embrace a deep understanding of myself brings me a sense of joy and satisfaction that I never thought was possible since the time of feeling the delicate rays of sun shine down on my little face as a child.
My path of progression could have ended right there and all of the amazing gifts of the Empower Thyself initiation. I quickly discovered this empowerment helped me to achieve greatness with positive ability. It is shown by greater skills in manifesting financial abundance, conquering depression, recovery from addiction, and willingness to fully accept myself and others. This empowerment still continues to grow with me as I live my life in strength and beauty. However, my personal mission was clearly mapped to continue on an initiatory path. Within five years of my first initiation, I have received seven formal initiations. Each ceremony is a little bit different and each empowerment holds a specific purpose for my particular path in service.
Making a choice to receive a formal initiation is a personal decision for each person to make in their own heart. When it is your moment to choose this rite of passage, you will know. From this decision to step forward you will gain the strength and understanding to manifest an unlimited amount of joy and abundance that you are capable of creating in your life.
